Dalí continues to inspire and energise the artistic scene; a new film about the artists’ life, more specifically his relationship  with his sister, is due for release later in 2017.

The new Spanish cinematic release Miss Dalí!,"by Spanish director Ventura Pons, is currently being filmed in and around Cadaques. The film has as its principal character Anna Maria, Dalí’s sister, (played by Sian Phillips) and the action takes place during both the 1920s and 1989, during the days after Dalí’s death.

The director, Pons, explains the film is “hidden, a Greek tragedy about  two siblings who lived in the same village for forty years without talking to one another.

Pons used to spend his summers in Cadaqués, where he met Dalí and his wife Gala, about whom he has “many stories to tell’.

Therefore the director had direct access to the famous Surrealist and his immediate family. It is the director’s 31st film.

Scenes are being filmed this Spring during March and April in Portlligat. Many scenes have been filmed in Anna Maria’s actual house ‘Es Llaner,’ which is still occupied by the same woman who cared for her in her last days.

May and June will see filming centered in the 1920s and 1930s, when García Lorca and Luis Buñuel arrived on the Empordà coast. The images from that period "the happy arcadia years", as described by Pons, will be recorded in Cadaqués and Figueres.

The Welsh actress Sian Philips, now in her eighties, best remembered for her role as Livia Drusila in the BBC series 'Me, Claudius', had never heard of Anna Maria Dalí before receiving the proposal from Pons. She says that "the more you read about his life , the more fascinating it becomes’.

The film is due for general release in late 2017.
